A great turnout from Ythan CC at the Deeside Thistle organised Grampian Transport Museum King of the Mountains Sportive at the weekend. With a choice of routes, the brave took on the 100 mile special which starts off with a little leg stretch up the Suie, followed by some other tear jerkers like the the Lecht and Gairnshiel. Well done to Hamish Cooper on his first century in a pretty good time of around 5:45. The more sensible members did the 100km (65 mile) challenge and a good time was had by all. Apparently this isn’t a race but as soon as timing chip went on the helmet and a number was pinned on their backs, quite a few of the Ythan massive decided that they should put the pedal to the metal and get round before they started. Apparently there are some lovely views but it is quite hard to take in the vista from altitude when you are breathing from a part of your body not designed for such use.
