In Aberdeenshire cycle route mythology, the Suie holds much mysticism when it come to the shire’s great climbs! Starting from the Clatt side you can see the Suie Road swing up to your right and thoughts of where the wind is coming from come to mind. Not that the wind will influence you initially as you are quite sheltered in the trees but you soon will leave this arboreal protection to appreciate the beauty of the vista which is unfolding in front of you. This isn’t a namby pamby continental climb that leads you in gently, it just goes straight to 8% and stays there for about 1.3 miles – here’s the Strava segment for those who are that way inclined:
- Distance 1.3mi
- Avg Grade 8%
- Lowest Elev 736ft
- Highest Elev 1,298ft
- Elev Difference 562ft
-
Climb Category 3
The descent is fast and the surface is good – beware the left hand turn at the bottom, it can be gravelly. Onwards to Alford for lunch…
